With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, INTO THE WOODS is one of the most popular musicals for schools and theaters. This show draws its plot points from several well know Brothers Grimm stories. The characters include Cinderella, her stepmother and evil stepsisters, Red Riding Hood, Granny, the Wolf, Jack and his beanstalk, Rapunzel, a couple princes, and other court members. And what fairy tale is complete without a witch? This show has it all...love, betrayal, magic, greed, desire, a living harp, a hen that lays golden eggs, magic beans, and a couple giants. Unlike most fairy tales, this one does not end with everyone living "happily ever after". More realistically, the characters realize that they are victims of their own decisions and not everything can work out as we would like it to.

About the Costume
The Baker is dressed in a peasant shirt, knickers, vest, hunting jacket and hat. For other times in the show, the baker has an apron.
About the Character
The Baker laments that he is an orphan and poor. He and his wife want a child but find that they are under a curse from the witch so that they can not bear children.

About the Costume

About the Character
Baker's Wife is a strong willed woman who wants nothing more from life than a child. She works with her husband to find the items necessary for the witch to undo the curse. She also has a brief fling with Cinderella's Prince.

The Witch is an ill tempered crone who believes that she has been wronged in the past...the Baker's father stole some magic beans from her garden. She has put a spell on the Baker and his Wife so that they can have no children. She has also imprisoned the Baker's sister, Rapunzel, in a tower hidden in the woods.

Rapunzel is dressed in a pale colored medieval dress. Rapunze's wig is the most important part of her costume. Our Rapunzel wig is unique in that it is specially designed to accommodate the Baker's wife pulling it apart and The Witch cutting the remainder off when she discovers that Rapunzel is allowing a Prince to visit her in her tower. This cut-away feature is critical to adhering to the original script, and ours is second to none!

Rapunzel is the sister of the Baker who has been kept in a secret tower all her life by The Witch.

Milky White
About the Costume
Milky white is built to look like a starving fantasy cow. The front legs are hollow with handholds for actor to be able to walk the front legs. This also allows the actor to pull arms out of front legs and pull the cape and other items through the mouth.
About the Character
Milky White is the best friend and pet of Jack. The poor starving beast must be sold to feed Jack and his mother.
