A tale of mistaken identity, rags to riches, young love, and fate. The "Hajj", a poetic beggar, along with his daughter, Marsinah sell rhymes sitting street side outside a temple. When the poet sends his daughter to the bazaar to steal oranges, he takes the place of the Hajj to beg, pretending to be his cousin. The Poet (Hajj), Marsinah, and Marsinah's lover the Caliph defy all odds for love and prosperity.

About the Character
Marsinah is the daughter of Haj, the poet. She works with him in his con games in the marketplace. When looking at a house to buy, she meets and falls in love with the young Caliph who is disguised as a gardener. Will true love triumph?

Hajj is wearing a belted, open front metallic tunic with satin leggings and a small turban with boots.
About the Character
Hajj is a poet/con man who sells his wares...bits of poetry...in the marketplace. When he cannot sell any verses, he takes the place of a beggar making curses at anyone who does not give him money. His biggest score is managing to convince robbers, brigands, and those in the palace that he is a great sage and should be treated as such.

Princesses Ababu
About the Costume
The Princesses Ababu are from a warrior culture so they are dressed as female warriors complete with weapons and shields.
About the Character
The Princesses Ababu are sent by their father so that one (or all three) may marry the Caliph thus binding the two kingdoms. Initially they do not wish to remain in Baghdad, but after LaLume convinces them to stay, they fight for the privilege to marry the Caliph killing one of the other candidates in the process.
