THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE tells the story of a young woman, Millie Dillmount, who comes to the big city to seek her fame and fortune. She has big ideals and bigger ideas. She tears up her ticket home, buys some new clothes, professes her faith in herself (singing the title song) and promptly has her purse, shoe and hat stolen! Undaunted, Millie finds a room in a hotel for women, The Priscilla Hotel run by a (supposedly) Chinese woman named Mrs. Meers. Along with her two helpers, Ching Ho and Bun Foo, Mrs. Meers is involved with the white slave trade, kidnapping girls from the hotel and selling them off to be sent to the Orient. Miss Dorothy also checks into the Priscilla Hotel and becomes Millie's new best friend.Millie secures a job as a private secretary at SINCERE TRUST where she plans and plots to become the wife of her Boss, wealthy Trevor Graydon. Millie finds, however, that she is falling in love with Jimmy Smith who seems to be a penniless playboy. Enter Muzzy Van Heusen songstress and society party giver who pushes Millie and Jimmy more closely together. Dorothy is kidnapped by Mrs. Meers and Muzzy disguises herself (but not very well) as a young woman all alone in the world as she checks into the Priscilla. Millie, Jimmy, and Muzzy spring their trap on Mrs. Meers and her two unwilling henchmen. In the end, Millie and Jimmy are together. Dorothy and Bun Foo have found true love. Mrs. Meers is jailed. Trevor Graydon gets a new secretary. And Chin ho and Bun Foo's mother arrives from China...a happy, if confusing, ending
